Sara Kim is a writer, musician, and data analysis graduate student in New York City. She was a trained classical pianist from ages four to 15, has been studying contemporary music since age 12, and started writing her own songs at age 25. In terms of her profession, she worked as a journalist for 15 years, starting as a radio news anchor and writer in Seoul, South Korea. She then moved to New York and worked on documentaries, as a video editor in a newsroom, continues writing, and is currently in a two-year program at Pratt Institute where she studies data analysis and computer programming. During her two-week residency at La Macina di San Cresci, she worked on song transcriptions of contemporary music, put together a video for her own music using video that she filmed during the pandemic, and also worked on nonfiction writing about her family's war- and immigration-related trauma related to South Korea and the US. She feels that there are similarities in why a piece of music, writing, or film has the "right rhythm," and, therefore, keeps a viewer's attention.
