La Macina di San Cresci

“Artists are interesting creatures. We can be obsessive, dedicated, spirited and single minded in our pursuit for that perfect realisation of our art. We tend to be outsiders and are often that square peg in the round hole, so when you find an oasis like San Cresci you hold on tight -- for it’s that sense of belonging which welcomes you.”

In 2021 I was awarded an Arts Council England grant to develop my professional practice in moving images, sound and writing. I have used this to help me to complete 4 film projects, including 2 short films on Autism and ADHD, with 2 more films and a documentary in the process of production. My first film “We are the Lost Girls” has so far been shown at 24 international film festivals, receiving 19 awards.
I am also in the process of creating a series of publications/videos/multi-media artworks based on my journeys across the USA. These new artworks are being based on my experiences while travelling of the landscapes, cultures and iconography of places to which I travel. I have already created over 200 2-dimensional artworks based on these experiences and my ambition is to extend this method into multi-media work that can result in on-line and real publications and videos, which can be shown publicly, on YouTube, etc, and at film festivals.
I have travelled widely throughout Italy over the last 20 years, and own a house in Abruzzo, which I visit when I can, using it as a base to create new artworks. I have travelled widely across the world, but Italy is my favourite country, so an obvious choice for creating these new multi-media artworks.
I have extensive experience in working as an artist-in-residence, and have found attendance to be very stimulating, mixing with other artists, working with local people, experiencing new places and creating a large body of work.
