La Macina di San Cresci

“Artists are interesting creatures. We can be obsessive, dedicated, spirited and single minded in our pursuit for that perfect realisation of our art. We tend to be outsiders and are often that square peg in the round hole, so when you find an oasis like San Cresci you hold on tight -- for it’s that sense of belonging which welcomes you.”

After a career as publisher of books for young people, and a producer of theatrical works, I now put my creative energy into visual art. Drawing, painting, printmaking and manipulating natural materials, I work in a range of media to express responses to the world. My focus is on place: landscape and cityscape, domestic and public, familiar and foreign, internal and external.
I think of art-making as a way of paying attention to the world – to life. My impetus is to look, feel, connect more deeply, and respond to the complex beauty of what I encounter.
My sculptural pieces and works-on-paper emerge from curiosity and play. Walking, observing, collecting objects and inspiration that quicken the pulse, I respond to the tactile qualities, the form and inclination of materials. I work with the mutability of matter, traces of growth and disintegration, combining and transforming to discover new possibilities.
My work has appeared in solo and group exhibitions and been purchased by the CAE and private collectors
