La Macina di San Cresci

“Artists are interesting creatures. We can be obsessive, dedicated, spirited and single minded in our pursuit for that perfect realisation of our art. We tend to be outsiders and are often that square peg in the round hole, so when you find an oasis like San Cresci you hold on tight -- for it’s that sense of belonging which welcomes you.”

My name is Nicole Porcello and I am a writer, reader, and traveler currently living in the New England area of the United States. I just completed my Master of Fine Arts Degree at Emerson College in Boston, MA, focusing on writing a collection of short stories. The collection I completed is called “Dukkha” which is a Sanskrit word for “suffering.” The collection I wrote attempts to explore the experiences of several characters of varying genders and age groups in their unique struggle to understand themselves and their places in the world. These stories deal with the complicated relationships of parents and children, the internal battles fought with mental illness, and the complex emotions of love and loss.
