La Macina di San Cresci

“Artists are interesting creatures. We can be obsessive, dedicated, spirited and single minded in our pursuit for that perfect realisation of our art. We tend to be outsiders and are often that square peg in the round hole, so when you find an oasis like San Cresci you hold on tight -- for it’s that sense of belonging which welcomes you.”
Rebecca Rath , Australia

Discipline: Painting
Country: Finland
At La Macina: 2024

Works from his studio in Hanko, a seaside town in the south of Finland. His works have been featured in exhibition held  in Finland and elsewhere in Europe. The paintings are included in many art collections.

Kaj applies the paint intuitively, layers upon layers until he instinctively arrives at the result he desires. the technique is mixed media, often starting with stuctured layers of marble dust or concrete, the the process continues with acrylic paint and collages of paper or fabric glued in. it's a process of adding and off scraping.

Inspiration springs from the environment he grew up, the island where he grew up, mountains, forest and the sea shore. Later he found inspiration in the old and worn, abandoned houses in cities of south of Europe.

On nature or city walks he have eyes for materials or things, that can be useful in his paintings one day.

Kaj Ard's paintings are tracks of our time and our lives.
