La Macina di San Cresci

“Artists are interesting creatures. We can be obsessive, dedicated, spirited and single minded in our pursuit for that perfect realisation of our art. We tend to be outsiders and are often that square peg in the round hole, so when you find an oasis like San Cresci you hold on tight -- for it’s that sense of belonging which welcomes you.”

My contemporary drawing practice is gestural, experimental and layered. It is evidence of a journey of searching and discovering. It is about finding my mark; my handwriting style. About delving into the subconscious and drawing out aspects of the unknown. It’s about tapping into the realm where anything is possible. When artists are asked “Where does it come from?”, many don’t have a direct answer, but often say that they switch off and let it simply evolve. Time stops and magic happens. This is specific with drawing; it is immediate and exploratory. Intimate and direct. It is a direct tap into the artistic mind and the emotive response of the artist. A simple mark can express a great deal about the creator, the hand of the artist.
