La Macina di San Cresci

“Artists are interesting creatures. We can be obsessive, dedicated, spirited and single minded in our pursuit for that perfect realisation of our art. We tend to be outsiders and are often that square peg in the round hole, so when you find an oasis like San Cresci you hold on tight -- for it’s that sense of belonging which welcomes you.”

Jane Thompson was born and raised in the country on a sheep and cattle property in the Southern Tablelands of NSW, Australia.

Working predominantly in acrylics, wax pastels, oil sticks and graphite, Jane enjoys creating with fast drying materials as they enable her to capture the energy and freedom in the spontaneous moment. For Jane there are no rules, no boundaries, no expectations and no plan of what it ‘should be’; the process is expressionistic and guided by the energy of the creation and the energy from Jane herself.  An unfolding story where all manner of thoughts and experiences are shared.

An avid explorer, Jane has lived and worked in many places throughout Australia, including Broken Hill, the Kimberley, Canberra, Sydney and now Brisbane where she lives her with two young children, one husband and one mischievous Beagle dog.

Jane adores the country landscape where she has spent much of her life, however since living in the city her creative style and influences have slowly shifted towards more arbitrary urban and social themes. The everyday in the city, meshed with her love of music and the freedom of growing up in the bush; all contributing to her evolving abstract style where the colours reign superior.

Represented by several galleries throughout Australia it is Jane’s wish to continue developing her practice and connecting with audiences from all over the world. Her work is held in both private and corporate collections in Australia, the UK, Europe, Southeast Asia and North America.
