I am a visual artist primarily trained as a painter from The National College of Arts , Lahore, Pakistan.
My father was a renowned Pakistani film director and my mother a very well know and well reputed actor.I was born in Lahore which was the hub of growing Pakistani film world. I started going to cinema at a very very young age and therefore became acquainted with the imaginary world inside the cinema halls. It was there that I first became aware of how women were sexualized onscreen, specially my own mother. This led to inspire my art later.
My work basically highlights issues regarding feminine presence within a culturally male gendered society. This concern grows out of my own experiential knowledge where women in our society are constantly subjugated to remain submissive in many ways , particularly with regard to expressing their sexuality. Also because I had seen my own mother being sexualized onscreen I was compelled to create art that depicted woman as the protagonist and not submissive. I am highly inspired by artists such a Farida Kahlo, Tracy Moffat, Jane Campion and David Lynch.
