Correva l’anno 948 e ancora Leonardo da Vinci non ci aveva regalato tutte le sue straordinarie invenzioni. No, non c’era neanche Dante e avremmo dovuto aspettare un po’ di tempo prima di leggere la Divina Commedia. Brunelleschi ancora non aveva dato a Firenze la Cupola del Duomo e neanche Giotto il Campanile. No, in questa terra di Toscana non sapevamo neanche dell’esistenza dell’America. Firenze era poco più di un paese e c’erano solo campi incolti dove poi sarebbe sorta Greve in Chianti. Ma in quel lontano 948 la Pieve di San Cresci c’era già, su una splendida collina di fronte la quale, secoli più tardi, sarebbe nato Giovanni da Verrazzano. Piccolo borgo che ha visto avvicendarsi il Medioevo, il Rinascimento el'Illuminismo ed è arrivato a noi, continuando a cavalcare la storia. Incastonato tra paesaggi diventati famosi, come il loro olio ed il loro vino, attraversato dai tour enogastronomici tra le colline del Chianti, questo luogo vive ed è stato dedicato all’arte. E’ qui che organizziamo corsi e workshop di fotografia, pittura, affresco ed acquerello, scultura, arte del vetro e decorazione della carta E qui è nata una residenza per artisti. Lo avrebbe apprezzato Michelangelo e forse anche Botticelli. Ci si sarebbe rifugiato Galileo per guardar le stelle. La Casa degli Artisti è un luogo dove pittori, scultori, fotografi, scrittori si incontrano, discutono, lavorano insieme; una casa per una vacanza attiva, un luogo dove apprezzare ancora di più il Chianti. Siamo negli anni duemila, la Pieve di San Cresci è poco più di un puntino su Google Earth, ma quanta storia alle spalle e quanto ancora da raccontare.
It was the year 948 and Leonardo da Vinci had not yet given us his extraordinary inventions. No, there was not even Dante and we would have to wait some time before reading the Divine Comedy. Brunelleschi had not yet given the cupola of the cathedral to Florence and Giotto the bell tower. No, in this land called Tuscany we did not even know of the existence of America.Florence was just a small town and there were only uncultivated fields where Greve in Chianti would arise. And yet in that long ago 948 the Pieve di San Cresci was already in place, on a beautiful hill in front of which, centuries later, Giovanni da Verrazzano would be born. This small hamlet has seen the Middle Ages, the Renaissance and the Enlightenment and has come down to us, continuing to ride along with history. Situated in a landscape as famous as their oil and wine and crisscrossed by gastronomic tours between the hills of Chianti, this place lives for and is dedicated to, the arts. It is here that we organize courses and workshops of photography, painting, fresco, watercolor, sculpture, art glass and decorative paper making. It is here that we have a residence for artists. Michelangelo would have appreciated this and perhaps even Botticelli. Galileo would have come here in refuge to observe the stars. The Artist's House is a place where painters, sculptors, photographers, and writers meet to converse and work together. It is a home away from home for an active holiday, a place to appreciate the Chianti area even more. Here in the 21st century the Parish Church of San Cresci is little more than a dot on Google Earth, but it is replete with history and has still much to say in the future.
